Celebrating A Decade of Nouveau Cherry Preserves

It is that time of year when the Republic is buzzing about our Nouveau Preserves, making this our 10th anniversary of the process. From tree to jar in just 24 hours, this jar of preserves is the freshest, most delicious you can find which is why we keep producing the preserves a decade later. We are excited to announce that these jars, still warm from the processes of creating the preserves, will hit the stores on July 25th.

Our Montmorency tart cherries are best harvested around mid to late July. There is a fine balance for our Northern Michigan farmers while growing the cherries. They ensure that our cherries are sweet and juicy, while not letting them crack and rot. Each season brings on many variables, but our farmers have perfected the practice! We value our farmers and appreciate all their hard work to make our delicious Nouveau Preserves possible. With tremendous help from each person throughout this incredible process, Cherry Republic has been able to get as close to the orchard, and the taste of fresh-picked cherries as possible. Did you know each cherry tree can produce 100 pounds of cherries?

Now that Nouveau is finally headed to stores we thought we would share their 24-hour journey from the orchard to our various locations. First, the cherry trees are shaken to drop the ripe Montmorency tart cherries from the tree. The cherries are pitted and processed in Empire, Michigan. From here they are able to create the preserve. They are jarred and labeled, then transported to our stores. One important step in the process is that the preserve must be cooled to jar the product. When they hit the store shelves, the jars are still warm from the fresh and quick process that we have created.

This 10- year milestone would not be possible without the Republic, from our farmers to factory and store workers and our loyal customers. When Bob Sutherland first founded Cherry Republic in 1989, one of his main goals was to support Northern Michigan, and the Leelanau County’s cherry farmers. Nouveau Preserves allows us to intimately work with our farmers, and consumers to make a product that encapsulates a taste of Northern Michigan.
