Fresh and dried cherries with blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries on a wooden table by a bright window with flowers outside

8 Cherry and Berry Recipes Made for Bright Spring Days

Spring has a lovely way of making any kitchen feel a little more inviting. Maybe it’s the open windows, the breeze drifting in, or that familiar pull to bake something cheerful with fruit in the mix. And when the season calls for something sweet, simple, and easy to make, recipes with cherries and berries are often just the thing.

What Is the Difference Between Berries and Cherries?

Berries and cherries pair up beautifully in lots of recipes, though they’re not the same kind of fruit. Cherries have a pit in the middle, while berries are usually smaller, softer, and pit-free.

That difference comes through in texture and flavor. Berries are juicy and tender with an easy sweetness, while tart cherries have a firmer bite and a sharper tang. Together, they make spring desserts especially lively.

What Berries Go Best with Cherries?

Blueberries are often the most natural match for cherries, since their mild sweetness helps round out the cherry’s tartness without stealing the show. Michigan Blueberry Jam with a Hint of Cherry shows that balance nicely, with blueberry softening the tartness without covering up the cherry.

Strawberries also get along well with cherries, bringing a sunnier sweetness and softer texture, much like what you get in Cherry Strawberry Preserves. Raspberries head in a bolder direction, and in Cherry Berry Jam, their tanginess helps draw out the cherry’s  deeper flavor.

What to Make with Cherries and Berries

Once cherries and berries team up, there are tons of delicious things you can make with them—butter cookies, scones, soft cakes, fruit-filled bars, and desserts that don’t ask much beyond a good baking dish. Here are a few good recipes to start with.

1. Cherry and Berry Crisp

A fruit crisp is one of those desserts that makes it seem like you planned ahead, even when you didn’t. In this recipe, cherry pie filling does most of the work, blueberries add a fresh pop, and a crumbly topping comes together in minutes.

Ingredients

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  2. Spoon cherry pie filling into an 8x8-inch baking dish, then scatter blueberries evenly over the top.

  3. In a bowl, combine crisp mix and melted butter until crumbly.

  4. Sprinkle evenly over the fruit.

  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the top is golden and the filling is bubbling at the edges.

  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

2. Cherry-Blueberry Lemon Loaf

Lemon and berries give this loaf a clean, citrusy edge that works really well in spring baking. It’s great for brunch spreads, coffee breaks, or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • ½ cup milk

  • ⅓ cup butter, melted

  • Zest of 1 lemon

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)

  • ½ cup blueberries

  • ½ cup Balaton Dried Cherries

Steps

  1. Heat oven to 350°F and grease an 8x4-inch loaf pan.

  2. Stir flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl.

  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, butter, lemon zest, and lemon juice if using.

  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.

  5. Toss blueberries and dried cherries lightly in flour, then fold them into the batter.

  6. Pour into the pan and smooth the top.

  1. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

  2. Cool before slicing.

3. Chantilly Cake with Cherries, Blueberries, and Strawberries

When there’s something to celebrate, this cake does the job beautifully. Stacked with fruit and finished with soft cream, it has that lightness that suits spring so well.

Ingredients

  • 1 8-inch vanilla or sponge cake (store-bought or homemade)

  • 1 cup heavy cream (chilled)

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

  • ⅓ cup Original Cherry Jam

  • ½ cup cherries, pitted and halved

  • ½ cup blueberries

  • ½ cup sliced strawberries

Steps

  1. Beat cream, sugar, and vanilla (if using) until soft peaks form.

  2. Slice cake into two even layers using a serrated knife.

  3. Spread a thin layer of cherry jam over the bottom layer.

  4. Add whipped cream and some of the fruit (pat dry if very juicy).

  5. Place the top layer on and finish with more jam, cream, and fruit.

  6. Chill 30 minutes before slicing.

4. Chocolate Cherry-Berry Fruitcake

A lot lighter than the traditional fruitcake, this version bakes up soft and rich with chocolate, berries, and dried cherries that are just right for spring.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ cup sugar

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2 eggs (room temp)

  • ½ cup milk

  • ⅓ cup butter, melted

  • ½ cup blueberries

  • ½ cup Montmorency Dried Cherries

Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8x4-inch loaf pan.

  2. In one bowl, stir together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and melted butter.

  4. Pour the wet mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients and stir just until smooth (the batter will be thick).

  5. Toss blueberries lightly in flour, then fold in with dried cherries.

  6. Pour the batter into the pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until the center is set.

  8. Let cool before slicing.

5. Cherry Berry Oatmeal Bars

These bars land somewhere between a snack and a dessert, which is part of their charm. The oat base keeps things hearty, the blueberry jam is subtly sweet, and the cherries add a little extra fruit in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup butter, melted (salted)

  • ½ cup Cherry Republic Blueberry Jam

  • ½ cup fresh cherries, chopped

Steps

  1. Heat oven to 350°F and line an 8x8-inch pan with parchment.

  2. Stir oats, flour, sugar, and butter until clumpy.

  3. Press half firmly into the bottom of the pan.

  4. Spread jam evenly, then scatter chopped cherries over the top.

  5. Crumble remaining oat mixture over everything.

  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes until lightly golden.

  7. Cool completely before slicing.

6. Classic Cherry and Blueberry Pie

Some desserts never really go out of style, and this is one of them. Spring won’t be complete without at least one homemade pie—better yet, one that’s filled with cherries and blueberries.

Ingredients

  • 1 double pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

  • 1½ cups fresh cherries, pitted

  • 1 cup blueberries

  • ⅓ cup Montmorency Dried Cherries

Steps

  3. Roll out one crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish.

  4. Stir the filling once more, then pour it into the crust and spread it evenly.

  5. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.

  6. Cover with the second crust or a lattice top, then seal and crimp the edges.

  7. Brush with egg wash if using, and cut a few slits on top for steam.

  8. Bake for 45–50 minutes until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.

  9. Let cool for at least 1–2 hours before slicing.

7. Cherry Berry Shortcake Cups

Layered desserts come into their own in spring when fruit is front and center. These cups are quick to assemble and pretty handy for showers, lunches, or small gatherings where individual servings keep things simple.
