  1. An Evening Supporting MLCV With Bob + Steph

An Evening Supporting MLCV With Bob + Steph
Cherry Republic President Bob Sutherland and his wife, Stephanie, are hosting a party at the new Cherry Public House in Glen Arbor to support Michigan League of Conservation Voters (LCV). We will discuss the current state of Michigan’s waterways and our vision for a powerful conservation voters movement in 2018 and beyond. Please come join Bob and Steph and many other like-minded lovers of Michigan's woods and waters to see what actions we can take to protect them for generations to come. Please join us on August 16 for this important gathering!
  2. Biking the U.S. for M.S.

Back in March, we got an email from Jerry VanStrien, a cycle-enthusiast on a mission. Jerry was about to embark on a cross-country bike trip from Kentucky to San Francisco to raise money to battle Multiple Sclerosis — and he was looking for some fuel for his team in the form of cherry love.

    Tickling Our Funny Bone
We had a sneaking suspicion that our Citizens are among the most clever folks around, and you proved us right! Last month we put the word out that we were looking for new quips for our legendary in-store signs, and we received ideas from more than 100 people!

New Charlevoix Store - A First Look
On Thursday, June 7, 2018, after years of renovation, Cherry Republic of Charlevoix opened its doors for the first time. Here are some photos of the store as Cherry Ambassadors from far and wide prepare it for those summer Charlevoix visitors.
  5. The May Farm: Harvesting Sunlight

    The May Farm: Harvesting Sunlight
It seems fitting to write a blog post about a solar grant project against the backdrop of spring’s lengthening days. The plants, animals and humans on the farm are harvesting every extra minute of daylight, faces tilted toward the sun.
  6. Sneak Peek: The Cherry Public House!

Sneak Peek: The Cherry Public House!
Our new Cherry Public House is one week away from opening.  It is looking fantastic and we are so excited.   Here is a little sneak peak as we finish up the zillion final details. Here is a view from the front of the newly renovated building.  You see new windows and doors, a new patio, and a new paint color...
  7. Some Snowy Springtime Fun

    Some Snowy Springtime Fun
It snowed eight inches again last night. Here we are, halfway through April and Northern Michigan is back to winter wonderland for the second time in 10 days. We’ve had these little windows of spring that allowed us a hike on the beach last weekend. It was a mix of beautiful sandy beach to stretch out on (in our coats) and yet, just 100 yards down the beach four foot ice mounds to climb on. Here are some photos of the family and I enjoying a beach of perfect balance between winter and spring.
  8. Some Northern Winter Fun

    Some Northern Winter Fun
It has been a few years since our winter has been cold enough to produce abundant Lake Michigan ice.  We saw it a few days ago while hiking Pyramid Point.  I knew we would be on a beach soon to explore all the beautiful blue and winter whiteness.
  9. Detroit Tigers In The Republic

    Detroit Tigers In The Republic
A line of eager Detroit Tigers fans snaked through our Traverse City store and down Front Street yesterday afternoon, hoping for the chance to snap a selfie with soon-to-be Hall of Famer Alan Trammell and pitchers Shane Greene and Daniel Stumpf as the Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan rolled into Northern Michigan.
  10. Now Is The Time to Protect our National Lands

Now Is The Time to Protect our National Lands
One day last week, I needed to clear my head. I stepped out of my office, jogged the short distance toward the water, and was at the Lake Michigan shoreline in minutes. I spent the next hour walking the beach, breathing in the wonder of this majestic body of fresh water, and feeling grateful that this 35-mile stretch of National Lakeshore has been protected – not just for me, a Glen Arbor ‘local’ -- but for everyone in our country to enjoy.
