"I am not sending a written recipe - just photos that show the use of Cherry Republic Pepper Jelly. Don't they say 'a picture is worth a thousand words'? The setting: Wild Creek Lodge (a fly-in lodge owned by a friend) on Kodiak Island, Alaska. The date: mid-June 2007. The pictures: the guys were preparing fresh caught Rock Fish/Black Bass for dinner that night." |

Ice Adventures: Well Glen Arbor isn't quite Alaska, but Lake Michigan sure looked like the Bering Straights (Glen Artica) as Bob and I ventured out in canoes this past Friday. Bob is an experienced "ice canoer" and I'm, well, I've been canoeing before. It was intended to be a staff excursion, but luckily, no one would rent us canoes. It took us 20 minutes to get out on the water, navigating our single person canoes through the ice flows and breaking through skim ice. The sun was out and it was truly a beautiful sight. Local photographer Jeff Rabidoux captured us on film (the gallery is called "Lake Michigan's Ice Age") as we begin the approach back to the 6 foot wall of ice that was once the shore line. It took numerous attempts and 40 minutes of Bob leap-frogging on the giant ice flows to get us back to shore. Jason, Director of Retail Operations, ran down to locate not just us, but most importantly the Cherry Republic Constitution in the event that that it had to carry on without Bob. Looking back, the dangerous adventure was worth it, as we were able to see the beauty of our area in full winter. However, I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking to the river the next time I go winter canoeing...no icebergs there. |
