Cherry Republic Set to Announce Donations. On Thursday, October 11, 2007, Cherry Republic will celebrate the farmers that make this area the largest tart cherry producing region in North America. Cherry Republic will announce $15,000 in donations at the Farmers Appreciation Night. Farmers have been invited from counties including Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Antrim and Benzie. Checks will be presented to the Leelanau Conservancy, Taste the Local Difference, the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station, and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. Cherry Republic's mission is to create quality cherry products and sell them with flair to people across the world. By doing this, we will increase the demand for cherries. Cherry Republic has become a leader in helping farmers preserve their farms by donating one percent of all sales to programs including those developed by the Leelanau Conservancy and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. Cherry Republic also donates to the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station to make sure farmers have the research behind them to keep them at a competitive advantage. Additionally, our donation to Taste the Local Difference helps youth enter this important industry with the entrepreneurial skills to succeed. |

Warm weekend... This past weekend's weather was nearly identical to a July weekend. It was in the 80's and the lakes were calm. Jon, my father in law, and I used the good weather to tear out some giant cedar stumps on his beach. Afterward, I jumped in Glen Lake for a long swim, but (much like my swim in Lake Michigan the next day) it felt a little unnatural. I think that the odd feeling had something to do with colorful maple leafs dropping on me while I was swimming. I will enjoy it-- as it may never happen again. |
