There are still patches of snow on the ground, which may have tricked some businesses into thinking that we have lots of time to prepare for summer, but Memorial Weekend is just 6 weeks away! Is Cherry Republic ready? Not yet! Are we close? Yes! There are new Cherry Snickerdoodles for sale in the cafe. The floor is resealed in the main store. We are still trying to decide the perfect blend for our new sweet and spicy cherry party mix....

Bear Hibernation Ends
The bears are waking up around Glen Arbor and the staff has spotted several around the Republic. It seems that their hibernation has produced an appetite for chocolate, cherries and mischief. They were recently spotted hiding in our bakery, following the delivery truck, and sneaking into our warehouse. We have also noticed several Cherry Chocolate Coffee Cakes that have gone missing. Humans need not worry, these bears only seem interested in cherries. We'll keep you posted.

Health of the Harvest...
The unseasonable cold weather last week caused some damage to the upcoming cherry crop, however the extent of the damage is unclear. Mark Longstroth from the Michigan State University Extension office has some insight into how cold temperatures damage fruit, as well as how it is possible for many buds to survive.
