It's impossible to improve on our original dried cherry, but let us introduce you to its beautiful cousin, the Balaton Cherry. Originally discovered near Lake Balaton in Hungary, this unique variety is a little bit darker, a little bit spicier, and a little bit plumper than our Montmorency original. Introduced to the Republic in 1984, citizens don't need to travel across the ocean to find the Balatons anymore!

- The Absolutely Best Dried Cherry
- When these cherries are available, stock your pantry... Often difficult to find, these are seriously delicious. Add some Balatons and crystalized ginger to your meatloaf: elevates a weekly, sometimes mundane, entree to gourmet. Can not praise these enough...
- My mother stuffed our stockings and returned from bi-annual Michigan trips with Michigan specialties including from Cherry Republic. My sister and I eagerly awaited the replenishments of Michigan sour cherries, blueberries, and more recently, Balatons, which are scrumptious sour cherries from Hungary (and they are not from the Lake Balaton area but from much farther east; "Balaton" was the only name on the Hungarian map that Americans could easily pronounce). They've got red skin and red flesh, whereas American sour cherries have red skin and clearing flesh. It's hard to describe why their taste stands out a little differently. They seem to have a spicier bite to them. Anyway, I love em all!
